Kingdom Stewardship
Where is your heart?
In Matthew 6:21 (NKJV) For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Where is your heart? That is a question that I asked myself this month while reading the book Blessed Life by Robert Morris. Is my treasure in heaven or on earth? Where do I store it? What does this even mean?
I have always thought that being blessed is having a successful and rewarding career or business, in part it is, but that is not the full picture. Zoom out a bit, and you must investigate where these blessings come from and what you are doing to access them. Are you living a life of surrender or a life of waste or frugality? Living a surrendered life brings eternal joy and wealth without any sorrow. Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it. This is very true in our day-to-day lives. You see times where families battle in courts for years on end, fighting battles from their fathers on the division of wealth; there is sorrow in these families. If only they lived a surrendered life, such sorrows would not exist, and wealth would be enjoyed and spread to all corners.
What are you surrendered to?
Surrender in the dictionary means to relinquish control of (something) to another because of demand or compulsion. Living a surrendered life to God is to relinquish control of your life to God because we choose to fully heartedly without compulsion or demand. We just do it because you have faith in the risen King, faith that there is a God, and faith that He has the best interests at heart for me. Where do I put my treasure?
Where is my treasure?
Knowing that I am fully surrendered, I can then instinctively build the kingdom of God using all the resources God has provided me. With my salary or my earnings in business, I start to steward the money into the right channels. Tithe, giving, savings, investing, expenses, and so forth. One area that has challenged me is the area where you give on instinct, or in better terms, when you hear the word of God to give to such a person, and in turn, you see blessings manifest in your life. My treasure is not of this world; my treasure is in who I invest in, not what I invest in.
You can never outgive God.
This is where I will end and leave an enduring thought in your mind. As Moses Mukisa said, If God could figure out how to get His resources to you without involving your faith, he would do it, but He will not. Why? Because he does not want to dishonor you without using your faith. He wants you to be a participant in the process. I have read and heard many stories of people with radical generosity, and God, in turn, blesses them many times over. Are you ready to take this faith journey? I know I am.
