Compassionate Leadership
This month as we tackled the topic Compassionate Leadership through the various sources I was challenged and motivated at the same time, not only to see myself completing this fearless experience but to make a lasting and meaningful change in my life and the life of others. One quote that really got me fired up was in Building People Building Dreams by Tom Deuschle, ‘Stop playing with the turkeys and start flying with the eagles!’
In the video Practical Ministry Skills by Pastor Milton Jumba, he emphasized that we have been given the power of the Holy Spirit because we are saved. With this power and responsibility, we have the authority to operate in the spiritual realm where we are capable of accomplishing all that’s in our heart's desires that are placed by the Holy Spirit. Moreover, we have been given dominion to rule the earth, Genesis 1:28 (NIV) .“Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
After understanding that we have the Holy Spirit and authority to take dominion over the earth, the book Building People Building Dreams by Tom Deuschle went ahead and showed us how the Holy Spirit can guide you on your vision. This vision is the building block of your successes in life. This vision is God-driven, you will be passionate about your vision, this vision will determine your future and all the futures of the people around you, and even all over the world. This is what Tom Deuschle did in Zimbabwe. His vision was to build people, build dreams, transform lives, and reform nations. With the work he did in Zimbabwe, he was very successful and very motivational in my own vision to Empower Youth Building Futures. Where I seek to empower the youth with access to education, skills training, and discipleship to help them thrive in a world where their natural progression would lead them to a very different path of suffering and helplessness.
With my vision in seeking and helping the youth, the book When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert brought a very important aspect of helping that is very sobering. We need to be very careful when giving; this could lead to hurting the very people we are helping and, in turn, hurt us in the process. The main thrust of this book is to develop others and not just give handouts. Developing others means to involve and let the people be at the forefront of alleviating themselves out of poverty, which in turn builds a long-lasting and life-changing livelihood for all the people involved in the process. In my vision, I will empower the youth in gaining skills by supporting them through school or vocational colleges in addition to discipling them. This will give them opportunities to either start their own businesses or to get jobs, which will then alleviate them from poverty or being lost in society.
